The Ones We Love

Recently over a lunch break I came across this website that was too tender not to mention. The Ones We Love is an online project showcasing young and talented photographers from all over the world. Six photographs of the person(s) who is most important to them is submitted. A minimalist approach to the website catches my eye while the difference in natural light & positions the various photographers capture is effortless. The main purpose of this project is to portray the people who are loved, cherished, and inspirational to these young individuals. Awwwww!!!

BRAINWASHED

In attendance for the private opening this past Tuesday, I found myself overwhelmed with the colossal production for Mr Brainwash's first solo show held at the old CBS studios on Sunset. Live jazz players played their instruments sporadically through out the venue and djs played their records from above while guests wandered around the exhibit. Adult beverages were provided all night to make you feel at home. Overall a nice way to spend a warm summer evening. Honored to have been able to be part of the few that got to preview the exhibit that will only be up through the weekend. And from what I hear is being talked about all around the city so much as to say the height Banksy's show a couple years back.

HEY LOVERS..a lil FYI

yes, well, Phillip Lim is gonna be opening up shop on Robertson tomorrow. He is so dreamy as are his collections. That's all I'm gonna say for now as he has left me speechless yet again. je' taime 3.1. see you soon!
....xo forever....

Sundays + Sangria + Smiles = Season IV

Yes, Season IV of The Do-Over is soon approaching and is going to be bigger and liver than ever. Continuing to host this Sunday Funday at Crane's Tavern in Hollywood with a roomier space (as Crane bought the space next door) and now has full
liquor license. This is not your typical 'Hollywood' party (thank goodness!) instead...enjoy the company of mystery guest DJs whom in the past have included: Madlib, Stretch Armstrong, Peanut Butter Wolf, The Gaslamp Killer, and Pubes to name a select few; have some BBQ and DO NOT FORGET THE SANGRIA!!!! This party is one you come to relax, dance, mingle, and get stained...most know and are quite loyal to the grown folk movement thanks to Jamie Strong, Chris Haycock, and Aloe Blacc.

Watcha' gonna do??? DO-OVER!!!
Starting back up Sunday May 18th.

Friendly Tips for The Do-Over:
-Arrive early (and I am not just saying that).
-Fellas bring a lady or two, or three
-Do not wear white (and if you do, don't get mad b/c someone spilled Sangria on you, it is bound to happen)
-Be nice to the hosts, bartenders, DJs, and BBQ master
-Have fun and Dance!

See you at....

BADU bing, bada ROOTS

Erykah Badu and The Roots are stopping in LA June 12, 2008 at the Greek Theatre. I have seen both perform live but cannot begin to imagine how mind blowing the two together on one stage, in one night would be. So I will be in attendance to witness it all. I can only expect this is going to be one hot summer night at an amazing venue under the stars with fun friends and good tunes.

Other shows to keep abreast to:

-Feist; Sunday July 20th- Hollywood Bowl
-Radiohead; Sunday & Monday August 24 & 25th- Hollywood Bowl (SOLD OUT..goodluck!)

One Sweet Word: CUPCAKES

Rumor has it that free cupcakes will be given to the first 1000 people on the grand opening which is this month..You have been warned. As the mayor-ette of Larchmont it is only right that I let you know, Crumbs a family operated bakeshop from New York, is opening their second location (1st in Beverly Hills) on this lovely street.
With flavors such as Oreo, Caramel Apple, and Reese's Peanut Butter cupcake, Sprinkles might have some competition on their hands. The ultimate test for me will be their red velvet. Just when I was thinking how perfect and appropriate a cutesy kitschy bake shoppe would be on Larchmont, a birdie came and whispered the good news in my ear. Now if I can only get the exact date of the opening so that I can make sure to welcome the new neighbor with open arms not to mention my eager sweet tooth ;)

To Die For

These gems are crafted and designed by none other than Chrissie Morris. In her words, "My shoes are for women like me, my mother, my sister—strong women with strong personalities, who like beautiful things." Now all the women I know are quite the strong women with strong personalities and love love love and adore beautiful things. So needless to say our cute and freshly pedicured feet need to find a home within at least one pair of Morris' masterpieces. Or at least keep abreast of this young talented designer.

Relax & Recylce

Cardboard Robot has gone from wallets to now custom made furniture. Reminiscent of Frank Gehry like design, made of glue & cardboard, hence the name. The uber color pads add a nice touch and bit of comfort. Now, one may ask how such furniture would hold up human weight. I can assure you from personal experience having sat on something similar at R-23 (hidden sushi spot in downtown LA) that my derriere and all the rest held up just fine. All pieces are made to order starting at $250 ranging from a single chair, love seat, sofa and shelves.

Early EATS or Late Nite BITES

Listen up foodies..A new restaurant has popped up on Sunset Vine. It is a 22 hour open joint that is closed between 4-6am. The number one feature is obviously the waffles which range from a blueberry lemon to applewood smoked bacon to chocolate. I would have to say that the hash browns are a must, we tried the 3 cheese and corned beef, quite savory! All in all a comfort food menu: scrambles, burgers, sandwiches, salads, MAC & CHEESE, sweets and treats. They even cater to the vegetarians and best yet the pooches with 'woofles'. The decor is mod meets diner meets old las vegas lounge. Did I mention the upstairs bar?!?! Needless to say I will be going back, who's in?

Bon Jour Au Revior Simone

Kudu, Ratatat, and Au Revior Simone have a couple things in common. One: New York, Brooklyn/ Williamsburg in particular. Two: they are kinda marvelous!! Well I am happy to tip you off that Au Revior Simone will be performing at The Troubadour this Friday January 25, 2008. Tickets are $12 in advance and doors open at 8pm. I am excited to go to this show as I came across this band and have been digging them ever since. Here is a small write up of the group from Julian Hooper:

Named after a hilariously unforgettable scene in Tim Burton's Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Brooklyn girl-band Au Revoir Simone sing serious pop harmonies with electro-synth spunk. The Williamsburg women's ethereal tunes have earned considerable critical love of late (David Lynch listed them as his favorite new band of 2007). Tonight, at the tail end of a minitour that bounced them around the country, ARS blaze a trail to the Troubadour stage for some surreal chick rock, including tunes from their second album, The Bird of Music.

Find out more about them out on their website: http://aurevoirsimone.com/

I encourage you all to check out these along with other galleries that exhibit and support fresh up and coming talent as well as those local faves we already adore..explore the unknown and unfamiliar, it can turn out to be good for you.
